Remove Last Path Component In a String

You should not manipulate paths directly, there is os.path module for that.

>>> import os.path
>>> print os.path.dirname("C:\Users\myFile.txt")
C:\Users
>>> print os.path.dirname(os.path.dirname("C:\Users\myFile.txt"))
C:\
