Python module to shellquote/unshellquote? [duplicate]

Looks like

try:  # py3
    from shlex import quote
except ImportError:  # py2
    from pipes import quote

quote("hello stack overflow's quite cool")
>>> '"hello stack overflow\'s quite cool"'

gets me far enough.
