Can I mix static and shared-object libraries when linking?

Looking at this thread you can see that it can be done. The guys at GNU suggest

gcc foo.c -Wl,-Bstatic -lbar -lbaz -lqux -Wl,-Bdynamic -lcorge -o foo.exe
