Automapper returning an empty collection, I want a null

The simple answer is to use AllowNullCollections:

AutoMapper.Mapper.Initialize(cfg =>
{
    cfg.AllowNullCollections = true;
});

or if you use the instance API

new MapperConfiguration(cfg =>
{
    cfg.AllowNullCollections = true;
}
