Is there anyway to implement XOR in javascript

As others have pointed out, logical XOR is the same as not-equal for booleans, so you can do this:

  // XOR validation
  if( isEmptyString(firstStr) != isEmptyString(secondStr) )
    {
      alert(SOME_VALIDATION_MSG);
      return;
    }
