How do I remove carriage returns with Ruby?

Use String#strip

Returns a copy of str with leading and trailing whitespace removed.

e.g

"    hello    ".strip   #=> "hello"   
"\tgoodbye\r\n".strip   #=> "goodbye"

Using gsub

string = string.gsub(/\r/," ")
string = string.gsub(/\n/," ")
