You should take a look at the command command, which enables you to add gdb commands as a breakpoint is hit. See the breakpoint command list section of the gdb manual. For example: break someFunction commands print var1 end will, when the breakpoint on someFunction is hit, automatically print var1.

You can use the file tool, which will tell you the type of line ending. Or, you could just use dos2unix -U which will convert everything to Unix line endings, regardless of what it started with.
Include the phrase: @echo off right at the top of your bat script.
The solution that fully meets my needs would be SHC – a free tool, or CCsh a commercial tool. Both compile shell scripts to C, which then can be compiled using a C compiler.
