AngularJS directive does not update on scope variable changes

You should create a bound scope variable and watch its changes:

return {
   restrict: 'E',
   scope: {
     name: '='
   },
   link: function(scope) {
     scope.$watch('name', function() {
        // all the code here...
     });
   }
};
