Create (sane/safe) filename from any (unsafe) string [duplicate]

Python:

"".join([c for c in filename if c.isalpha() or c.isdigit() or c==' ']).rstrip()

this accepts Unicode characters but removes line breaks, etc.

example:

filename = u"ad\nbla'{-+\)(ç?"

gives: adblaç
