Periodic iOS background location updates
It seems that stopUpdatingLocation is what triggers the background watchdog timer, so I replaced it in didUpdateLocation with: [self.locationManager setDesiredAccuracy:kCLLocationAccuracyThreeKilometers]; [self.locationManager setDistanceFilter:99999]; which appears to effectively power down the GPS.
