MSBuildExtensionsPath32 not set correctly?

MSBuildExtensionsPath32 is set internally by MSBuild. (BuildEngine.BuildPropertyGroup.SetExtensionsPathProperties) But you could override it by setting an environment variable. SET MSBuildExtensionsPath=”C:\Program Files\MSBuild” Or you could override the value in your project file : <PropertyGroup> <MSBuildExtensionsPath>C:\Users\madgnome\Desktop\msbuild</MSBuildExtensionsPath> <!– It works too with relative path –> <!–<MSBuildExtensionsPath>..\msbuild</MSBuildExtensionsPath>–> </PropertyGroup> <Import Project=”$(MSBuildBinPath)\Microsoft.CSharp.targets” /> <Import Project=”$(MSBuildExtensionsPath)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v10.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets” />

Avoiding “Press any key to continue” when running console application from Visual Studio

I’m pretty sure that you cannot affect or change this behavior. As you mention, it has nothing to do with your application itself, because it doesn’t do it when you double-click on the EXE. You only see this effect when you run the app from within Visual Studio without the debugger attached. Presumably, when you … Read more

How to fix “Internal Diagnostics Hub Exception” in VS 2015 Update 1?

I dug into the the Visual Studio logs to understand what was happening (C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ActivityLog.xml). So in Visual Studio 2010 and later, the extensibility APIs you want to at are under the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Languages.IntelliSense namespace. There are two problems … Read more

“Visual Studio Integration Package” vs “Visual Studio Add-in”: what is the difference?

Ok, you can find a full detailed comparison here (there are also links to the previous parts in the series). But basically, add-ins were available as the VS extension type from the very first versions of the VS and built as the COM components. Later on, some limitations were discovered in that approach, so the … Read more

Why do I get “file is used by another process” errors when I debug within Visual Studio?

To be honest with you, it sounds like a bug in VS2010. For some reason it isn’t closing the open handles when the debugger stops. Killing the VS process automatically closes those handles, allowing you to access the file again. As a work around, you might look at unlocker it’s free and works exceptionally well. … Read more

Visual Studio: debug information in release build

The size of the executable should increase much less than 25%. I’m actually a little surprised that it increases much at all, but some quick tests show that at least one large example project (ScummVM) increases the .exe from 10,205,184 bytes to 10,996,224 bytes just by adding the /DEBUG option to the link step (about … Read more

Visual Studio post build events stuck waiting for executable to finish before running app in debug mode

I also found that the start trick didn’t work and downloading a separate tool to complete such a simple task seemed excessive. After some additional searching I found this SO post which gave an answer that worked for my needs. Just replace <actual-command-line-to-run> with your command. Remember to give the full path to the executable … Read more
