To disable the welcome screen, all you have to do is uncheck the box at the bottom that says “Show on startup”. (If I misunderstood you and you were asking about the splash screen, you can disable it by passing the -nosplash parameter.)
You can use Path Tools plugin (you have to download it from the site and install by manually adding it in downloaded section in NetBeans plugin menu) There is also more recent plugin QuickOpener for newer NetBeans versions. Other nice plugin that offers this functionality is CoolEditorActions, available through update center in Infrastuture category.
A bit late answer. Netbeans 7.4 has an inbuilt support for terminal emulator. All you need is to go to Window->IDE Tools->Terminal.

In NetBeans select (highlight) the project that contained the ZIP file. Under Versioning, select Local History -> Revert Deleted. See if your ZIP file comes back. If not, you’re probably out of luck. Version control and backups are your friends.
