By default, the hotkeys: CTRL+SHIFT+Y changes to lowercase. CTRL+SHIFT+X changes to UPPERCASE. Or, on a Mac: ⌘+⇧+Y changes to lowercase. ⌘+⇧+X changes to UPPERCASE.

To compare two files in Eclipse, first select them in the Project Explorer / Package Explorer / Navigator with control-click. Now right-click on one of the files, and the following context menu will appear. Select Compare With / Each Other.

Metadata should not be managed in source control. They contain mostly data relevant to your workspace. The only exception is the .launch XML files (launcher definition).
