Unicode has two symbols for unknown characters:
- □ (WHITE SQUARE, U+25A1) – Replaces a missing or unsupported Unicode character.
- � (REPLACEMENT CHARACTER, U+FFFD) – Replaces an invalid or unrecognizable character. Indicates a Unicode error.
